Without a title it is difficult to decide the meaning of that column of light, but that there was a symbolic intention is likely. The child is clearly female, so I won’t go as far as to speculate on a Madonna and Child theme, yet it seems to have spoken to Carl at a deep level. He framed the work himself and it has hung in the family home for many years.
